For years, China had enforced a strict zero-COVID policy, responding to every small outbreak with mass testing and enforced quarantines.
Then suddenly, last month, it abandoned zero-COVID.
Now, the virus is surging through the Chinese population, with internal Chinese government figures seen by The Wall Street Journal showing that 250 million people got COVID in China during the month of December alone.
This mass outbreak will have huge implications, not just in China but for the world at large, given that China is the world’s second-largest economy and its factory floor.
