Yesterday, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 0.5 percentage points.
Stocks rallied after this news, largely because Fed officials said they aren’t considering an even larger increase of three-fourths of a percentage point in the next quarter.
Still, two big questions remain: If the Fed is not willing to be more aggressive, how will it tame inflation that’s running at 8.5% or more?
And if it can’t tame inflation, does that mean we are heading for a recession?
On my final day in Tulum, Mexico, I sat down with Field Notes Managing Editor Ciaran Madden to answer these questions.
We discussed whether a recession is in the offing, what that would mean for stocks and crypto, and how our trip to Tulum ties into all of this.

P.S. One of the best moves you can make in a tough, recessionary economy is to reduce your outlays. The best way I know to achieve this is to move overseas.
When you move overseas, you not only reduce your expenses, you get a even better quality of life. And few destinations, if any, offer better value than Italy. History, food, wine, sun, gorgeous locales, and friendly people, Italy has it all. And living there is surprisingly affordable, with quality apartments and homes available from as little as $30,000 to $60,000.
